Re-cover Project at Seacroft Hospital

Artlink invited artists Bryony and Van Nong to deliver an 8-week project with the Acute Male Psychiatry Unit at The Newsam Centre, Seacroft Hospital. The project explored printing and plaster casting, particularly body casting with the patients.

Each week, up to 12 men engaged with the activities. The levels of concentration displayed by them was inspiring as they got to grips with using plaster of Paris and alginate to create casts of feet, faces and hands. The completed pieces will be displayed on the unit together with canvas prints of images taken throughout the project.

“Bryony and Van were great, they formed really nice relationships with the patients attending and I think this was part of the reason why there were so many attendees and returning attendees, including some patients who were not interested in attending other activities offered by the ward.” - Member of ward staff

Date: October- December 2012
Locations: Seacroft Hospital
Participants: Male patients with mental health needs
